The birth of Satine Kershaw

In the beginning I had no interest in hiring a doula. I believed I would be fine with just my husbands support through my unmedicated birth. However, everybody I spoke with highly recommended having a doula, especially as I was a first time mom. I am so grateful they convinced me! And I could not have found a better match for us than Meghan.

She was the 3rd doula I reached out to. After our first video call I knew she was the one for us. She had the perfect balance of gentleness, knowledge and directness I was looking for.

I was 41+4 and used the midwives brew of caster oil to induce labor. Consistent contractions began around 4-5 and we called Meghan over around 6-7. Meghan was a life saver as things picked up. She helped me breath through the contractions, used counter pressure to help with the pain and was so encouraging to me. Around 9 she helped me get into a side laying position and soon after my water broke. Things picked up after that and soon I was having the urge to push. We called the midwives, my husband and Meghan got me into the car and we floored it to the birth center.

After that it was so intense I had my eyes closed, was holding my husbands hands and just felt the midwives doing checks and prep as they got the tub ready. Once I got in I was able to push my baby’s head out after some more pushes. Unfortunately contractions stopped after that. Satine had shoulder dystocia. They got me out of the tub, on the floor, and with some help, I pushed my baby girl out.
